The other day, one of the regular visitors to our site wrote me a completely fair remark in a personal message. Why is there not a single article that describes the range of drugs for powerlifters, but only for muscle-building bodybuilders? I'm correcting myself. This article will be just for you, dear lifters. I will try to review and comment on the main medications that are actively used in powerlifting.

Naturally, all information is for general educational purposes. Don't blindly copy it. Before choosing a set of medications, each individual athlete must take into account the characteristics of his body, weight category and, of course, the likelihood of being subject to doping control. And so - in order:

Glucosamine to support healthy joints and ligaments

Any powerlifter knows the stress that regular strength training puts on your joints. Heavy, constant loads week after week affect their condition and can damage the tissues of the joint, leading to injury. Glucosamine (sulfate) can be used as a prophylactic agent to protect cartilage tissue. It makes weakened joints stronger.

When should you take it?

Glucosamine can be taken at any time of the day, as it has a cumulative effect. It will lead to chronic improvement, stick to the manufacturer's recommended dosage.

The dangers of taking anabolic steroids

These drugs are prohibited from free distribution. Anyone who decides to sell steroids should be aware of possible criminal liability. Anabolic steroids are classified as potent substances, and they can be purchased legally in our country only at a pharmacy with a prescription from a doctor. However, in gyms, almost all athletes know where and how they can buy such drugs “under the counter.”

Why is a course of steroids for strength harmful to health and why are these drugs prohibited for free sale? Before starting treatment, each person must be aware that they are voluntarily introducing high doses of hormones into their body. After all, anabolic steroids are precisely hormonal drugs.

They are produced in the form of tablets and in the form of liquid or oil in ampoules for injection. Without medical supervision, athletes often inject themselves with excessively high dosages, which ultimately disrupts the hormonal balance once and for all.

Side effects when taking steroids in men:

  • gynecomastia (enlargement and swelling of the mammary glands);
  • infertility;
  • reduction in the size of the genital organs;
  • impotence;
  • androgenetic alopecia.

The consequences of using a course on strength in powerlifting are not always so dire. If you correctly draw up a dosage schedule and determine the dosage of medications, and also take the advice of a competent sports doctor, then with the help of post-cycle therapy you can avoid health problems.

Steroids in women's powerlifting can lead to the following consequences:

  • the appearance of hair on the face and body;
  • the voice sits down and becomes bassy;
  • hypertrophy of the genital organs;
  • infertility;
  • amenorrhea.

For women, modern sports pharmacology offers soft steroids with minimal androgen content. Such drugs are more expensive, but in some cases they may not cause the virilization process. When taking testosterone and drugs containing it, the process of virilization for women is almost inevitable.

Creatine for gaining muscle mass and increasing strength

The benefits of creatine monohydrate have been clinically proven to increase strength, power, muscle endurance, speed of recovery between workouts, and even normalize the functioning of the cardiovascular system. We all know that creatine helps to gain lean muscle mass and increases strength, so it is obvious that creatine is advisable for all strength sports enthusiasts.

When should you take it?

Before and after training, 3-5 grams. Don't worry about the loading phase, studies have shown that in 30 days the same results are achieved with or without the loading phase.

Almost all powerlifting competitions held in Russia are held under the auspices of the IPF federation. The IPF is a powerful international federation, officially recognized by the IOC as the main contender for Olympic recognition. This is, of course, good, but Olympic recognition, or rather “candidacy” for it, imposes on national federations their responsibilities to combat doping. So, if at Russian bodybuilding tournaments no one has even heard of doping control, and if any bodybuilding competition, no matter what version, is “the land of unafraid idiots” (it’s dripping from the guys), then in the triathlon expanses of the final level Russian Championship and Russian Cup, more or less under the control of the All-Russian Anti-Doping Center. Doping tests are regularly carried out by drawing lots, and the lucky ones who have met the MSMK standard for the first time also pee copiously into jars. Why am I telling you about all this? No, not to show how well anti-doping work is done in the FPR (and it is, indeed, done well there), I’m just bringing you to a thought that is very strange for any “basement” jock or novice lifter. Here it is: in powerlifting, the level of use of prohibited drugs, just as in bodybuilding, directly depends on the level of training of the athlete, with only one caveat, in lifting, as a rule, the higher the level of training of the athlete, the less prohibited drugs he is forced to use in your pre-competition preparation! Yes, yes, I’m not laughing, dear comrade. lifters. All world records in the IPF over the past five to six years have been set by absolutely clean athletes. Unreal? Really. The strictest doping control leaves no chance for a “fouling” athlete to stay on Olympus. Well, if no prohibited drugs were found in the athlete’s sample, it means that the drugs are not working at the moment! All IPF record holders are required to be tested for the use of prohibited drugs, and if at national championships the option of forgery or “turning a blind eye” to a positive test on the part of sports officials is theoretically possible, then at the global level, due to the fierce competition between rival countries and total control, it becomes unreal. Well, the doping tests themselves make it possible to catch drugs quite a long time after their withdrawal. So. First question. When?

When should you start using illegal drugs? Before starting to take steroids, everyone should ask the question, what do they want to achieve in powerlifting? What goals does he set? If he trains for himself, then why does he need anabolic steroids? If his goal is to show high results and get into the national team, then the main principle of the athlete should be the expression “the later, the better.” While the body copes with the stress on its own, and the results grow, we must wait and refrain from taking “chemistry”.

Until when?

This is a very complex issue, both from an ethical and physiological point of view. We are all different, each has our own potential, our own body, but in my purely subjective opinion, you should think about “medicines” only when it is clear that all other attempts to improve your results are not successful. What attempts? Well, first of all, this is a critical examination of your training methodology. Sometimes changing your training plans can help you overcome plateaus. The second thing is equipment. Using the equipment to the fullest extent can increase your results by a hundred or more kg. Well, and finally, try to find flaws in your filigree technique of doing the exercises. Eliminating them can add several tens of kilograms to your total. It is when all of the above has been exhausted that you should first think about using illegal drugs. To begin with, of course, think carefully again: “Do you need it?” Are you ready to start experimenting with your endocrine system for the sake of another certificate of honor with a penny prize, or for the sake of the treasured MSMK booklet? Necessary?

Well then….

So let's get started. Typically, such a “dead” point occurs in athletes of the “sub-master” level. It is when only a few kilograms remain before the coveted MS standard that many “break down” and begin to use illegal drugs. There is even such a lifter’s saying: “A pack of methane to the “master.” Although I wouldn't recommend you rush. There are a lot of people in Russia who have fulfilled the master of sports standard “to perfection.” Believe me, a person who is predisposed to lifting, after 3-5 years of persistent training, is quite capable of crossing the cherished milestone even without chemicals. Remember one thing, the higher you “climb” in your results without using prohibited drugs, the stronger you will “shoot” by trying their effects on yourself. There are also individual athletes who have completed the MSMC without using anything prohibited in their training. There are only a few of them, but they exist.

Think, maybe you are one of them?

Where should I start? Rule number one - no "butter". If you want to continue to show high results, but at the same time always successfully pass doping controls, then do not accustom your body to “oil”. “Oil”, or rather oil-based medications, are very “foul” for doping control, and to the same extent they strongly teach the body to work with its help. Therefore, excuses like “I’ll pump up my omnadrenki now, but then, closer to completing the MSMK, I’ll give it up” won’t work. You simply cannot, or rather it will be very difficult for you, to give up powerful oil preparations, and you have the prospect of remaining an eternal “master”. In the following articles about pharmacology in powerlifting, the famous chemical mutant “Professor Skachko” will talk about how to reach the peak of strength using powerful, highly androgenic drugs, especially for those mastodons who are not burdened with the prospect of passing doping control, but in this article we will talk about the “correct” principles of pharmacology in powerlifting. So, we have discarded the “butter”, what remains? First of all, this is our old friend methandrostenolone. The drug is a legend. How many generations of weightlifters have grown up with it. Triathletes are no exception here. This is the most powerful oral anabolic steroid available to date. Do not believe fairy tales about miracle pills of Western or Eastern origin. Nothing stronger than methane has yet been invented. There are, of course, Anadrol 50 and Anavar, but in terms of price/effect ratio they all remain far behind our native “methane”. There are currently two factories producing methane in Russia. "Akrikhin", which patented the trade name "Methandrostenolone" and "Bioreactor", producing "methane" under the name "Methandienone". Drug dealers actively promote this or that product based on personal interest, hence the articles and rumors that say “this” methane works, but “that” one doesn’t. I won’t say or recommend anything, but I’ll just say one thing: I’ve heard bad opinions (the product “doesn’t work”) about both brands. Walking around the Russian market so-called. Nerobol, an analogue of methane produced in Yugoslavia and Hungary. Again, I will only say that, most likely in Hungary, local pharmacists will be terribly surprised if they get their hands on a jar of such a drug. Nerobol in Hungary, as well as in Yugoslavia, has not been officially released for a long time. What is sold in plastic jars with a sticky “Nerobol” sticker in Russia? Ask the person who offers you such a product – you will hear countless tales. More recently, the drug Anabol appeared on the Russian market. Synonym of Methandrostenolone produced in Taiwan. Anabol also causes a lot of controversy among athletes. Firstly, rumors are actively being circulated that the entire Moscow bodybuilding elite unanimously threw all their methane reserves into the trash, and just as unanimously rushed to purchase Anabol, as a cleaner and, in all respects, healthy drug for the athlete. Although, on the other hand, you can hear responses like “I ate your Anabol, but I didn’t feel any benefit from it,” so think for yourself. Dealers directly declare the new miraculous properties of Anabol, such as: immense “dust”, relative cheapness, and the ability to “hold” water much less than methane, and recommend that when using Anabol, slightly increase the doses of this drug than in experiments with methane. Unfortunately, I have not yet had the experience of trying this wonderful product and I will be glad to receive a package as a gift for testing (Ay! dealers!). In addition to methane, a powerlifter starting his pharmacological journey should pay attention to tableted Winstrol. Winstrol, or more precisely stanozolol, along with methane remains the most attractive drug for a powerlifter. It allows you to increase muscle strength without increasing their mass. Stanozolol has virtually no side effects, but in order for it to “work” good doses are needed. Among elite powerlifters, Winstrol tablets made in Spain (from Zambon) are the most trusted. Although there are Indian, Taiwanese and European analogues of stanozolol on the market, it is the Spanish version that inspires the most confidence among “advanced” athletes. Preparations such as English and Dutch stromb, although they are the same stanozolol, are often not suitable for beginners due to their high cost, although if you are a “rich Pinocchio”, then it is worth buying them, if, of course, you can find real and genuine ones. Recently Taiwanese-made stanozolol appeared in Russia, produced under the name “Stanobol” in dosages of 5 mg/tab. It has a very low price compared to European drugs. I would like to hope that this price did not affect the quality.

We decided on the medications. More precisely, you decide on them yourself. The very first course, provided that you got Stanozolol (Winstrol), I would advise basing it on it. It is not as heavy on the liver as methandrostenolone, but it will certainly give the necessary “impetus” to your strength. If you only have methane at your disposal, it’s not a problem, you can start with it. You can also combine methane with Winstrol - in this case, they act as good syngernists (mutually enhance each other’s effects). By the way, I have heard claims from some lifters that Winstrol without methane significantly increases the risk of injury during training. This is, of course, a controversial statement, but it’s worth listening to. In powerlifting, courses are usually structured in a “hill” manner. A slide is when you start with a minimum dose, gradually reach a peak, and then gradually decrease to the initial dose. This is followed by rest with “cleaning” and the course is repeated again. Some people practice constant “cycling”, this is when courses follow one after another. For beginners, one course immediately before the competition will be enough (provided that doping control is not carried out at them). The last days of the course must fall on the day of the competition.

So, a classic example of a slide from Winstrol (2 mg/tab). Dosages are given in tablets.

This course is designed for an athlete weighing 80-90kg. In the case of lower or higher body weight, the dosage can be changed to a smaller or larger direction, adhering to the “slide” rule. If you are learning chemistry for the first time, then this course should definitely push you in the direction of increasing your results.

A similar initial course for a lifter using methandrostenolone might look like this:

This course is also quite noticeably capable of moving a powerlifter from a “dead point” in his results. By the way, about the method of receiving methane. Many lifters prefer to dissolve it under the tongue, although according to the instructions the drug is taken orally with water. Winstrol should not be dissolved under the tongue. I won’t recommend anything in particular; it’s worth trying both options. The main thing, in my opinion, is to take medications (both Winstrol and Methane) before meals.

Well, in conclusion, a combined methane/Winstrol course. It’s better not to use it as your first course; the ones described above are quite suitable for the first; the same scheme is quite suitable for those athletes who have been familiar with pharmacology for several days. The main thing is that your body is not oversaturated with previous high dosages - if you adhered to approximately the same schemes that I described above, then this course will be the most optimal for you.

At this point, let me take my leave and remind you that while using anabolic drugs, your body will greatly benefit from high dosages of vitamins and minerals - do not forget about them. And remember that “chemistry” will not lift the barbell for you, it simply helps you recover from monstrous loads. It is necessary to “work off” every “methane” tablet in the gym.

Fish oil for cardiovascular health

Fish oil has been widely discussed over the past few years. And for good reason. Unsaturated fatty acids are good for the heart, joints, stabilizing body weight, improving blood circulation and brain function, energy storage, supporting the central nervous system, etc. Consuming these healthy fats is a must for all serious athletes.

When should you take it?

Fish oil can be consumed daily in a dosage of 2-4 grams. Divide this amount into 2-3 doses.

Taking steroids during the drying period

During the period of fat burning before competitions or the beach season, steroids are taken in order to prevent catabolic processes. The optimal choice is Oxandrolone. It has the ability to reduce the amount of subcutaneous fat and at the same time has a minimum of side effects.

This drug can be used by women, as it rarely provokes virilization. The main condition for preventing the development of side effects is not to exceed the recommended dosage. During the fat burning period, you should reduce the working weights and switch to high-repetition training.

Vitamin D to restore testosterone levels

Vitamin D is not only a champion for heart and thyroid health, but is also necessary for the absorption of calcium, a fundamentally important micronutrient for muscles. Vitamin D comes from sunlight, but due to the fast pace of life, many people do not get enough of it. Then sports supplements come to the rescue. In addition, recent studies have shown that vitamin D also regulates a key hormone for men, testosterone. Especially under stressful conditions.

When should you take it?

Take the recommended daily dose as directed by the manufacturer. Preferably in the morning, along with food.

The use of Nandrolone in strength sports

“Nandrolone” or its analogue called “Retabolil” occupies a leading position in many respects among anabolic steroids. This is an excellent choice for a powerlifting strength course. Currently, Nandrolone is the best anabolic steroid for increasing strength and muscle hypertrophy. Often used in conjunction with other hormonal drugs.

Athletes should be prepared for the fact that problems with potency may occur during the course of Sustanon plus Nandrolone. This is understandable: the powerful effect of the drugs suppresses the production of endogenous testosterone. As a result, problems with erection begin. The course of Sustanon plus Nandrolone should not last longer than two months. Otherwise, health problems of a chronic nature may begin.
